Also Lakalai bilu ‘a fish’, Lau bilu ‘large flattish fish with yellow fins’, Kwaio fii-filu ‘blue marlin’. This comparison is puzzling in that non-Oceanic evidence points to doublets with *p- and *b-, but the latter variant is attested only with reduplication. Oceanic evidence generally indicates an oral grade initial stop, but Lakalai and Lau bilu, if cognate, contrarily point to nasal grade.
