Since Karo Batak daliŋ could reflect either *dalij or *daliŋ, and the former variant is far more robustly attested, the first choice would be to assign the Karo Batak form to *dalij. However, this leads to the rather improbable conclusion that Toba Batak and Dairi-Pakpak Batak daliŋ are loanwords from Karo Batak. Since Tausug and Taje (Tanampedagi) daliŋ require the reconstruction of a doublet with final velar nasal in any case the simplest hypothesis appears to be that all of the Batak forms reflect this third variant.
